It doesn’t take a mid-life crisis to find yourself stuck in a rut. When life loses its sheen, you gotta shake up the humdrum and add some glitter to that old-hat, right? For example, the late (admittedly not-so-great) John DeLorean was sick of opening car doors the old fashioned way, so what did he do? Two words: gullwing doors. Let’s be a tad more modest and look instead at the HTC One M9 and it’s Motion Launch functionality. Motion Launch is HTC’s system of finger + motion gestures, aimed at imbuing your phone experience with a touch more panache. Keep reading to find out how to customize your phone and get the most out of your gestures:
Motion Launch Settings
Motion Launch is toggled on by default, but for the sake of familiarity let’s first navigate to the Motion Launch customization list to see just what it is we’re dealing with.
1. Open your Quick Settings window by using two fingers to swipe down from the status bar.
2. Tap the Settings icon and open Display & gestures.
3. Open Motion Launch gestures.
4. From the Motion Launch customization window, you’ll be able to toggle on/off whichever gestures seem most applicable to you. For instance, some shortcuts function to wake your phone from sleep into Home Screen, HTC Blinkfeed, or Camera app (to name just a few).
Of course, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with using the power button to wake your phone from sleep. Motion Launch exists to help make your phone experience feel a bit sleeker.
Are there any shortcuts that you would like to see HTC institute on their next phone?
